The team began developing their graduate showcase concept, drawing inspiration from Gosport’s star forts and narrow alleyways, with design elements reflecting local character and a potential chain-link motif to acknowledge connections with neighbouring Portsmouth-based studios.

This week we have been developing concept design for the graduate showcase exhibition. Starting with floor plan sketches from Aisha and concept collages from precedents of existing design exhibition, we have developed a theory and theme to run through our entire exhibition.

We have been inspired by the defences of the star forts in Gosport and the tight knit alleyways along the high street with their disordered mix of buildings leaning in on one another. These key elements will be brought into our design project. One consideration as well is our neighbours at the design showcase. Both studios 3 & 5, either side of us, are based in Portsmouth so the team considered whether we have some form of chain-link along the floor as there is along the coastal path between Portsmouth and Gosport.
